William John Davies was born at Koah near Mareeba Queensland on the 15 February 1898 to John Davies and Elizabeth Griffith, he had one brother Richard George born 1899. The family lived at Wrights Creek near Edmonton. William attended the Wrights Creek State School.

On his enlistment in Cairns he was 18 years 1 month, occupation a butcher and next of kin was his father, Mr. John Davies of Edmonton. His height was 5 feet 5 inches, weighed 126 pounds with fair complexion, blue eyes and fair hair.  He gave his religion as Church of England.

Wounded in action on the 4 August 1916 William was later admitted to Military Hospital Fargo London with Bronchitis 17 August 1916 and returned to duties 18 August 1916.

William John Davies was admitted on the 22 December 1917 to the 77th Causality Clearing Station, Jaffa, Palestine, Turkey with a gunshot wound to his left thigh and died of wounds the same day. He was only 19 years and 10 months old when he was fatally wounded on One Tree Hill, Palestine. He was buried in the Ramleh Military Cemetery, HaMerkaz, Israel.

He was known by his squadron as “Little Billy” and a great favourite with everyone.
