A Collection of Short Stories of Cairns & District Early Pioneering Women and Men

Based on our Shadows from the Past performances at Cairns Pioneer Cemetery where we tell  stories of those buried in the cemetery through our dramatised walks.

In most cases, there is minimal information to work with. Our presentation of stories brings to life the depth of personality, emotion and colourful history, simply by capturing the nuances of historical newspaper articles, legal documents, licences and vocation.  Writings are by Tessa Golding -Clarke.

This publication is now available in PDF format for $20 – to place your order please email our secretary

Do you have additional information to share for your soldier?

Initially launched in 2017, additional soldiers have been added to the Cairns Cenotaph WWI Soldiers Index

Have you checked our index for your soldier?

Following on from the research and publishing of the stories of the WW1 service men and woman on the Cairns Cenotaph, it was discovered that there were many more soldiers with a connection to the Cairns area who were not remembered on the Cairns Cenotaph.

Their names were collated from the Honour Board in the RSL Museum and their stories have now been written.  Some had very tenuous connections to the area, some were born and raised here, but they all deserve to be remembered.

Some were challenging to find we would love to hear from you if you have more information for their stories?

We hold burial records for McLeod Street Pioneer Cemetery.  We have undertaken extensive research on both the marked and unmarked graves, and produced detailed stories of those buried there.  Have you checked our index for your ancestor?
