John Alfred Robert Linde was born on the 19 January 1888 to Johann Jochim Linde and Charlotte Margaretha Dorothea Linde and was the second youngest of nine children. Annie Christine born 1876, Mary Jane, 1877, Dora Matilda 1878, Louisa 1878, Mary Ann Angenetta 1881, Claus Henry 1883, then John Alfred 1888 and Ellen Maud 1890.
John Alfred Robert and his siblings would have spent some time travelling North Queensland as their father was a miner. In 1903 John Jochim Linde was on the electoral roll for Crocodile, Capricornia in Mount Usher (Mine).
In 1912 John Alfred Robert was in Irvinebank as a miner as was his father. His mother’s occupation was listed alternately as a nurse and domestic duties. His father Johann Jochim Linde died 28 May 1920 and his mother Charlotte Margaretha Linde in 1944.
John Alfred Robert married Florence Eva Trezise on the 2 July 1913 and they had one son John Joseph Eric born 20 April 1914. John Joseph Eric married Adele Macoun 23 December 1939.
At the time of John Alfred Robert‘s enlistment he was residing at Rockhampton and working as a Miner. His next of kin was his wife, Florence Ivy Linde, her address was Off Campbell St. Rockhampton. John gave is age as 28 years 2 months. He was 5 feet 11 inches, weighted 192 pounds with fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. He gave his religion as Church of England.
John Alfred Robert was promoted to Lance Corporal on the 24 July 1917. He was killed near Ypres on the 15 October 1917 and buried in the Military Cemetery east of Ypres.
