Albert Male was born in Mareeba, Queensland, on the 14 January 1896 to Eli Ebenezer Male and Jane McAra and one of 7 children. Lydia born 1891, Ellen Kate 1893, David 1897, George Stuckey 1904 and Erena Lavinia born 1901. He also had 2 step siblings Mary May born 1888 and Percival 1890 born to Eli Ebenezer and Mary (Minnie) Long. Mary died in 1890.
Albert Male was a junior clerk to the Cairns Council in 1912.
On his enlistment in Cairns, Albert Male was 19 years 1 month, occupation was a Clerk, next of kin his father Mr. E.E. Male Casino NSW. His height was 6 feet, weighed 154 pounds with dark complexion, grey eyes and black hair. His religion was Church of England.
Albert also stated that he had been a Commissioned Service Senior Cadet for 14 months.
During his service he was promoted to Company Sergeant Major but reverted to Sergeant on the 31 March 1916 at his own request.
Albert was reported missing in France 29 July 1916, then as prisoner of war and then reported killed in action 29 July 1916 after a court of enquiry on the 3 September 1917. His memorial is on the Villies-Bretonneux Memorial, Villiers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France.
