George Arthur Sutherland was born c1890 in Strathsteven, Scotland and the only relative that is known is a sister, Mary Elizabeth who he names as his next of kin.
On his enlistment in Cairns his age was 26 years 3 months, his occupation a Motor Driver and next of kin his sister, Mrs Mary Elizabeth Patterson, Cleland, Scotland. His height was 5 feet 7 inches, weighed 144 pounds with dark complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. His religion was Presbyterian.
In his will he left the whole of his estate to John Telford, but should John predecease him, then to Ida Telford wife of James Telford Cairns.
George Arthur Sutherland was killed in action in Belgium on the 1 October 1917 and buried at Belleward Ridge Military Cemetery. Remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium.
