Can you identify this photograph or anyone in it?
Many people have old photos stored in suitcases, photo albums, and cardboard boxes that are of unknown origin.
A friend was going through some old photographs many years ago trying to sort out who the people were in the photographs.
She gave me a copy of one of her photographs (above) which was quite intriguing.
Unfortunately, no one in the photograph is recognised.
It is surmised that the photograph was probably taken in the Ravenshoe district.
What year was this photograph taken, and what was the occasion these people were celebrating? It certainly looks like a celebration, with all the floral headdresses and bouquets!
A conclusion has not been reached. Was it a May Day celebration, Mother’s Day, or was it a special Sunday gathering?
What a pity there is no notation on the back of the photograph.

I posted this picture on the FaceBook group “You Know You Grew Up or Love the Atherton Tablelands When” asking if anyone from Ravenshoe knows when the photograph was taken and if they knew anyone in it. I got many people guessing about what it was, but then one family recognized it as being a picture they remembered on their Grandmother’s wall. Another family member was able to identify when the photo was taken and a few of the people in it. The first names of family members were given but not the last name, so I asked for more information which I have not yet received. I will update this if more information comes. below is a copy of the post.

Lynette Biggs yes! This is a school picnic on the Millstream – circa 1910 – the little girl seated 2nd from left is our grandmother – then Eunice Kerr. Far left is her older sister Ivy (the kindest most beautiful soul in the world❤️) who later became Mrs Ivy Rayment of Ravenshoe. Their brothers, Wally and Mick are seated at back in the dark shirts. And the teacher standing behind them (the first school teacher in Ravenshoe) was their maiden aunt, Cicely Soileaux. Our Nana remembered this day – especially the gum nut wreaths they made for their hair. It has always made me think of ‘Snugglepot and Cuddlepie’. There are many interesting stories in a book about the pioneering days of the Ravenshoe area, the name of which escapes me. Does anyone know? This picture may well be in it, along with the names of the other children of those pioneering families. How tough they were!
I received further information about the family who identified the photo. The grandaughters name is Cathy Curruthers, Her Mothers married name is Maher and her grandmother’s (child in the photo) maiden name was Holden. The post is copied below.

Denise Evans My maiden name was Maher. Our mother Marie Maher née Holden (now residing in Carinya) grew up in both Ravenshoe (early years) and then Cairns (evacuating back to Ravenshoe during the war years). She married Jack Maher in 1953, they settled in Atherton and she has lived there ever since.
