They sailed from London aboard the S.S. Waratah and arrived in Sydney on Thursday 18 December 1908. His father’s occupation was as an accountant.

John’s father died in 1932 and his mother in 1953.
Both of his sisters also joined the forces. Jessie was a nurse before joining the Australian Army Nursing Corps on the 24 February 1943. Jean became a teacher and later joined R.A.A.F. on 12 Oct 1942. After the war both women resumed their chosen careers.
John, when he was living in Coorparoo, was a clerk. During the early 1930’s he moved to Tiaro, south of Maryborough, Queensland where he took up farming.
He enlisted in Brisbane and gave his father as his next of kin.
