Lenard Carr was the only son of Andrew Brougham and Ida Louth (Watherston) Carr, born 19 February 1920.  He was a Student Teacher studying at the University of Adelaide when he was called up.

On his enlistment his next of kin was his wife Florence Lillian Beaumont, his height was 5 feet 6½ inches, weight 140 pound with fair complexion, grey eyes and light brown hair.  His religion was Church of England.

Lenard was awarded his flying Badge on the 16 October 1941 and then went to the Catalina Conversion Course for Second Pilots from 13 May 1942 to 17 July 1942.

Lenard Carr was killed in Cairns Harbour on the 13 April 1943 in an aircraft accident when returning from operations against the enemy. Also killed in this crash were Flight Lieutenant Arnold Hinchliffe – pilot/captain, Flight Officer Leslie Lancedene Henstridge WAG, Sergeant James Vernon Stothard Lahey navigator, Corporal Harold McGillivray fitter, LAC Malcolm Frederick Merrett fitter. Three survived Sergeant George Geffrey Suckling WOAG – seriously injured, Corporal Lawrence Edwin Webber – fitter 11A – slightly injured, Leading Aircraftman Murray Lochart Byham – Amourer – seriously injured.

Court of Enquiry found that the cause of the accident was due to the fact that the petrol was exhausted and with the engines cutting out at a low altitude, as they did during slight rain, the pilot was unable to make a successful forced landing.
