Edward James McHugh was born 1 June 1916 to Cecil Henry and Sophia Augusta (Thiele) McHugh and he had six siblings. Leonard Hugh born 1909, Moslie Elvin 1911, Reginald Bertram 1913, Thora Joyce 1915, Montague Keith 1918 and Vida Jean in 1920.
Edward lived in Goodwood, Unley, South Australia and married Myrtle Jean Stone. His occupation was a presser.
He served in New Guinea.
Private Edward James McHugh was accidentally killed. He died from a severe haemorrhage, shock and extensive injury to right thigh from a shark bite at Trinity Beach, whilst attending a course of instruction.
Edward James McHugh’s name is on the Adelaide Roll of Honour board and also located at panel 87 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
