John James Patrick O’Callaghan was born in Melbourne 20 January 1915 to John and Mary (Clohessy) O’Callaghan and was the first of ten children.  

He enlisted in Geraldton, Western Australia and gave his next of kin was his sister Eileen O’Callaghan.

John was accidentally drowned in the Mulgrave River when an army vehicle went over the side of a traffic bridge while crossing the river.

John James Patrick O’Callaghan’s name is on Newport Roll of Honour board and also located at panel 27; Supplementary panel 3 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
