Norman Clarence Piper was born 28 June 1906 in Fitzroy, Victoria, his parents were John Thomas Arthur and Florence Victoria (Auld) Piper. His home town was Northcote, Darebin, Victoria and he was one of 13 children, John Thomas born 1895, Violet Ethel 1896, Arthur Nicholson born 1897, Stanley 1899, William George 1900, Leslie John born 1901, Vera May 1905, Norman Clarence 1906, Olive Pearline 1908, Gordon Raymond 1909, Reginald Bernard 1911, and Edna Florence 1917.

He married Lorna Elizabeth Mary Edwards in 1938 and when he enlisted in Tamworth, New South Wales, his occupation was a Chairmaker, next of kin was his wife, Lorna Elizabeth Mary Piper.

Norman served in New Guinea. 

He was thrown from a truck which turned over whilst on maneuvers on the Atherton Tablelands and died in hospital, sometime soon after, as a result of his injuries. 

Norman Clarence Piper’s name is on the Melbourne Roll of Honour board and also located at panel 39 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
