Donald Bain Sigg was born 27 May 1928 in Swan Hill, Victoria to Fredolin Peter and Elsie Camelia (Matthews) Sigg. He was one of four children.

He enlisted in Melbourne on the 3 June 1946, his height was 5 feet 5¾  inches with brown hair, brown eyes and fresh complexion, his next of kin was his mother, Elsie. He also served on the H.M.A.S. Cerberus.

Donald was engaged to Elaine Bell. 

He was killed when H.M.A.S Warnambool was engaged in bomb and mine clearance off the North Queensland Coast and struck a mine.
