John Methven Robertson Adams was born 23 September 1908 in Ayrshire, Scotland and came to Australia with his parents William Robertson and Margaret Thomson (Hallam) Adams and two siblings, Jessie Thomson Adams born 12 June 1904 and Jean Robertson Adams born 11 May 1906.  They sailed from London aboard the S.S. Waratah and arrived in Sydney on Thursday 18 December 1908.  His father’s occupation was as an accountant.

By 1910 they were living at ‘Straun House’ Cavendish Road, Coorparoo, Brisbane where his father was employed as a clerk with the legal firm of Messrs. Thynne and Macartney. When Sir Edward Macartney was appointed to the Ministry of Lands in 1910 William became the private secretary to the minister, and he retained the position in succeeding Ministries.

John’s father died in 1932 and his mother in 1953.

Both of his sisters also joined the forces. Jessie was a nurse before joining the Australian Army Nursing Corps on the 24 February 1943. Jean became a teacher and later joined R.A.A.F. on 12 Oct 1942. After the war both women resumed their chosen careers.

John, when he was living in Coorparoo, was a clerk. During the early 1930’s he moved to Tiaro, south of Maryborough, Queensland where he took up farming.

He enlisted in Brisbane and gave his father as his next of kin.

John Methven Robertson Adams died 3 February as the result of a motor cycle accident.

John Methven Robertson Adams’s name is on the Tiaro War Memorial and also located at panel 103 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
