The son of Walter Ernest and Lillian Mary (Smith) Burton, born 13 June 1918.  Matthew appears to have three siblings, Beryl, Douglas and Peggy.

When he enlisted his occupation was an orchard Labourer, he had brown hair and light blue eyes.

Walter served in the Middle East with the 2/10 Battalion as well as some time in New Guinea.

Private Matthew Burton died as the result of a motor accident when two military vehicles collided between Cairns and Trinity Beach.

Kenneth George Burton’s name is on Longford Roll of Honour board and also located at panel 34 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
