John was born 3 May 1909, his parents were John William Edward and Hannah (Brett) Cox. He married Evelyn Gellweiler 7 May 1939 and they had two sons.
Private John William Cox died of injuries sustained in a collision between a motorcycle he was driving and an R.A.A.F. truck.
John William Cox’s name is on the Roll of Honour Atherton and also located at panel 80 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
