Lachlan was born 13 April 1902 in Sky, Scotland, to William and Mary (McDonald) McKinnon, he was one of ten children. He arrived in Melbourne on board the Jervis Bay in 1926 and his occupation was listed as a chauffeur.
He enlisted 1 July 1940 in Caulfield, Victoria, and gave his father William as next of kin. He had dark hair, blue eyes; occupation, motor driver and station hand.
Lachlan married Edith Alice Mee in 1943 and she became his next of kin.
Private Lachlan McKinnon’s death is recorded on the Virtual War Memorial as, killed in service. NAA records death as, self-inflicted bullet wound.
Lachlan MacKinnon’s name is on the Roll of Honour board, Melbourne, and also located at panel 90 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
