Stephen Maynard was born 19 July 1907 in Boort, Victoria to Charles and Florence Margaret (McDonald) Maynard and had 5 siblings, Frank born 1904, Arthur 1907, Ray 1910, Rita 1912 and Clara 1915.

On his enlistment he gave his occupation as a miner and was married.  His next of kin was his wife Mrs. Violet May (Bawdon) Maynard.

Stephen Maynard served in Port Moresby.  While stationed in Cairns he died from injuries sustained when an army vehicle rolled over crushing him.
