Walter Pont was born in Chillagoe on the 6 February 1920, his parents were Henry John and Alice Maud (Andrews) Pont, his siblings were John born 1905, Catherine Alice born 1908, Stella 1911, Henry 1915, May Edna 1917 and William born 1920.

He enlisted in Cairns and gave his occupation as a carpenter, his religion was Roman Catholic, and he had brown hair and green eyes. 

Walter served in Port Moresby.  He died from subarachnoid haemorrhage (type of stroke).

Walter Pont’s name is on Cairns Roll of Honour board and is also located at panel 27 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
