Alan Ray Rider was the son of Arthur and Winifred Rose (Ray) Rider and one of three children.

On his enlistment his details were, height 5 feet 8¾ inches, with light brown hair, blue eyes and fresh complexion.

He served on the HMAS Cerberus, Assault, Moreton and Westralia that he joined 23 July 1943 to 31 December 1943.  During that time the Westralia was overseas from the 1 October 1943 to 31 December 1943, he then served on the  HMAS Kuranda.

Coder Alan Rider died 7 July 1944 as the result of a road accident.

Alan Ray Rider’s name is on Coburg Roll of Honour board and also located at panel 3 in the Commemorative Area at the Australian War Memorial.
