Patrick Francis QUINN

Patrick Francis Quinn was born 17 March 1883 to Hugh Quinn and Honora Courtney and had 3 siblings, Mary Ann born 1879 who married William Henry Thiele, Elizabeth 1881 and Hugh 1885.

After the death of his father his mother Honora married Cornelius Lehan had 3 children, twins Julia and Katherina born 1889 and Willian Nicholas 1892. William joined the army and died of wounds in France in 1918.

In 1903, according to the Electoral Roll, Patrick was a miner at Golden Gate, from here he moved to Mt Carbine in the Thornborough district and in 1916 was a miner at Wolfram, Thornborough.

On his enlistment in Cairns, Patrick’s age was 32 years 6 months, occupation a Miner, his next of kin his sister, Mrs. W Thiele, Yatter, via Cairns. His height was 6 feet, weighed 172 pounds with fair complexion, blue eyes and dark brown hair. His religion was Roman Catholic.

An application was made for a war pension by his sister Elizabeth Lamont of Edmonton but it was rejected on the grounds that the claimant was not dependent upon her late brother during 12 months prior to his enlistment.

Patrick Francis Quinn was taken on strength on the 2 August 1917 and was killed in action 2 weeks later on the 16 August 1917. He was buried in Blauwepoortbeck Cemetery NE of Messines, France and later moved to Messines Ridge British Cemetery, Messines, Flanders, Belgium.
