Herbert Bridge was born in Croydon, Queensland, on the 19 March 1896 to Roland James Bridge and Kate Winifred Bardsley and one of 4 children. Ellen Alma born 1897, Roland James born 1898 died 1898 and James Roland Bardsley 1906. Roland and Kate married 25 June 1895 in Queensland.
Herbert’s father, Roland James Bridge died 1933 and his mother Kate Winifred Walsh Bardsley died 18 April 1948.
On his enlistment in Townsville Herbert Bridge was 21 years 2 months, occupation was a Stockman, next of kin his mother Mrs. K W Bridge, Koolalah Station, Normanton, North Qld., later changed to father R J Bridge, Highbury Station, Via Mungana, Qld. His height was 5 feet 4 ½ inches, weighed 8 stone 10 pounds with dark complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. His religion was Church of England.
Herbert was wounded in action on the 28 August 1917 with a gunshot wound to his left shoulder and left chest and admitted to No 13 General Hospital Boulogne. He died of his wounds on the 15 September 1917 and was buried in the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, Boulogne, Nord Pas de Calais, France.
