Arthur Stewart Munro BRIDSON

Arthur Stewart Munro Bridson was born in Brisbane in 1890 to George Bridson and Mary Eunice Matthews.  Arthur was one of eight children, George born 1876, John 1879, Frank Matthews 1881, Percy Douglas 1883, Winifred Marian 1884, Emily 1889, and Glyn Moore 1892.

Arthur Stewart’s father was a bank manager of the Bank of New South Wales and so the family travelled constantly, from Ravenswood to Goondiwindi, Stanthorpe, Nanango, Beaudesert, Brisbane, Georgetown and then to Cairns. He attended various State Schools including Beaudesert, Cairns and Black Fellows Creek.

His father retired in 1903 and died in Cairns 1933, His mother Mary Eunice died in 1924 and they are buried in Martyn Street Cemetery Cairns.

On his enlistment in Cairns he was 25 years 8 months, a stockman, and his next of kin was his father Mr George Bridson, Edmonton, North Queensland.  His height was 5 feet 10 inches, weighed 162 pounds with fair complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. His religion was Church of England. Arthur’s address is given as “Avalon”, Edmonton, Via Cairns.

Arthur Stewart Munro Bridson was wounded in action on the 7 May 1917, returned to the field and was killed in action on the 24 April 1918.  He was buried in an  isolated grave in Meteran District and later reburied in the Meteren Military Cemetery 10 ½ miles south west of Ypres, France.

His uncle, Douglas Francis Seymour, was killed in action in France.
