Arthur Gill was born 4 May 1893 to William Henry Gill and Alice Morgan. He had one brother Edward born 1894 who served in the Australian Navy and Military Expedition Force and was part of the ‘Dirty 500”.
On his enlistment in Cairns, Arthur’s age was 23 years 9 months, occupation a labourer, next of kin his brother Edward Gill, Ayr Street, Townsville, changed to C/- Queensland Insurance Coy, William Street, Rockhampton, Queensland. His height was 5 feet 11 ½ inches, he weighed 157 pounds with fair complexion, grey eyes and fair hair. His religion was Church of England.
Arthur Gill was killed in action in Belgium on the 7 June 1917 and buried 750 yds East of Messines. He is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium.
