Christian Gisler was born on the 11 November 1896 to Christian Gisler and Maria Catharina Wiemers (Zimmemeyer). His parents married in January 1896.  Christian had one sister, Maria Magdalena born 9 September 1899 who married Norman Virgen on the 14 September 1921. His father, Christian Gisler, a miller, died on the 25 July 1921 and is buried in Drayton and Toowoomba Cemetery. His mother Maria died 13 October 1938.

On his enlistment Christian gave his address as Loco Dept. Cairns, his age as 21 years 1 month, his occupation was Acting Fireman and his next of kin was his father, Mr Christian Gisler, Campbell Street, Toowoomba.  Christian was 5 feet 9 inches in height, weighed 164 pounds with a fresh complexion, blue eyes and brown hair.  His religion was Roman Catholic.

Christian Gisler was killed in action on the 21 March 1918 at Tincourt Railway Station and was buried in the Tincourt New British Cemetery
