Frank KELLY

Frank Kelly married Elsie Card 25 October 1910 in Cairns Qld and had 2 children, Lillian Mary born 23 April 1911, died 5 February 1912 and Albert Francis born 20 November 1914 died 1916.

Frank and his brother Jack were well known in the Croydon field. They both lost sons to Spinal Meningitis within a few days of each other.

At the time of his enlistment Frank Kelly gave his age as 29 years, his occupation a labourer and his next of kin his wife, Mrs. Elsie Kelly, c/- T D Royal, Gatton St. Cairns.  His height was 5 feet 7 inches, weight 138 pounds with dark complexion, brown eyes and dark brown hair. His religion was Roman Catholic.

Frank was admitted to hospital on the 18 October 1917 having been mustard gassed. He was transferred to Queen Mary’s Military Hospital London. Gassed was classed as wounded. He rejoined his battalion on the 20 April 1918.

Frank Kelly was killed in action on the 7 September 1918. He is remembered on the Memorial at Villiers-Bretonneux Memorial, Villiers-Bretonneux, Picardie, France.
